The belts earned this weekend were symbols, not of perfection, but of progress. Progress born from commitment, discipline, and courage. From the teens on Friday night to the 6 year olds on Saturday morning, and finally the 8–12 year old group in the afternoon, every student who stepped onto the mat demonstrated that true strength begins within.
The evening began with the teen class stepping onto the mat before the Black Belt review board. The atmosphere carried a quiet calm, the kind that comes from both focus and anticipation. Each student moved with purpose, demonstrating the discipline and maturity that consistent training builds. Their teamwork, balance, and control reflected the true harmony of mind and body that Hapkido teaches.
The senior belt in this group faced the challenge of completing a blindfolded turning back kick for her board break, a requirement that demands not only precision and confidence, but also trust in one’s training. It was a powerful reminder that mastery is not achieved through strength alone, but through awareness and calmness of spirit.
This group displayed steady progress throughout their grading. Their quiet determination, mutual respect, and focus made it clear that each one is growing not only as a martial artist, but also as a person.
The first grading on Saturday morning belonged to our youngest group, the six year olds. For many, this was their first time testing before the Black Belt review board. They entered the Dojang with a mix of nervousness and excitement, their eyes wide with both anticipation and determination.
Once the test began, their preparation became clear. They worked hard through every round, pushing past the fatigue of pushups and running and quickly got their breathing under control. Even when boards did not break on the first attempt, they never looked for help or gave up. Each one reset, focused, and tried again until success was earned.
Every student in this group completed their grading with courage and determination.
The final grading of the weekend was for the eligible students ages eight to twelve. This group showed a strong sense of purpose from the moment they bowed onto the mat. Their confidence and composure reflected the experience they have gained through steady practice and continued dedication.
Each student demonstrated excellent technique and control, showing not only physical skill but also understanding of timing, distance, and awareness. Three of the five testing were advancing above green belt, which required them to perform their joint locking concepts blindfolded and complete their board break without removing the blindfold. Each one met that challenge with quiet confidence and precision.
The entire group displayed focus, respect, and the willingness to push beyond what is comfortable in order to grow. Their calm determination and teamwork were a powerful reminder that progress in Hapkido is built through patience, practice, and trust in oneself.
Across every age and rank, what stood out most was not only skill, but commitment. Each student showed the willingness to stay present, to work hard, and to believe in themselves even when challenged. Every belt earned represents many hours of practice, moments of doubt overcome, and lessons in perseverance that will serve them far beyond the mat.
This weekend was a clear reminder that strength of body, focus of mind, and calmness of spirit are not only what we strive to teach, but what our students continue to demonstrate through their actions. Their progress reflects the true purpose of training, to grow in discipline, confidence, and quiet strength. Well done!
