ABOUT INSTRUCTOR REQUIREMENTS

Authentic Martial Arts instruction must include not only the physical attributes of the Art but also the philosophical and psychological aspects as well. Anything less is “Partial Arts” not “Martial Arts”.

Many people have a misconception that having a Black belt makes a person qualified to teach others. This is false and does a huge disservice to the individuals being instructed and is ultimately damaging to the art.  Martial Arts passed down to others in this manner are degraded and inferior.

Having a Black Belt does not in itself qualify someone to be an instructor regardless of degree ranking. Earning a Black Belt means that the student has graduated from the color belt ranks and has built a foundation on which to learn. Black Belt is where the student takes the tools, they have gathered during their journey thus far and begins to develop the skills needed to become a Martial “Artist”.

Jung Mu Hapkido Kwan Instructors hold internationally recognized rankings and must meet stringent qualifications, such as the completion of the following:

  • Successful completion of the Instructor Development Course. (IDC) Every student is different. Each student presents different challenges regarding learning styles. Learning to present material in different methods, including the use of visual aids, is vital to the students’ understanding.

  • Instructor Apprentice hours. These are apprenticeship hours in every age group level of classes. (As part of the IDC, specific belt level classes are held to give prospective instructors in-depth experience in teaching the Jung Mu Hapkido syllabus to different age groups with different learning abilities).

  • Criminal History background checks, including State child abuse registry clearance, as well as first aid and CPR certifications.

  • 2nd Dan or higher to receive a letter of qualification to issue rank 7th gup through 1st gup. (Color Belt ranks).
