Two belt grading sessions were held this week. On Thursday two young Hapkidoin from the teen class graded up after demonstrating their required concepts and methods while going three rounds in the spirit circle with their classmates.  On Saturday, November9th, 2024, nine HapKIddos, ranging in age from 5 to 9, graded up after they demonstrated their required skill sets for their age groups in front of some of the Black Belts on the review board. Both gradings were fantastic! The kids in both gradings, Age 8+, had a choice of board for their break. Every one of them challenged themselves and went outside their comfort zone. Every break was successful! Fortitude! Certain Victory! Pil’sung!

Emotional control is an important attribute of traditional martial arts training. In our martial arts classes, we teach kids that anger, sadness, and fear are just feelings, while courage is a choice. Emotions can feel overwhelming and even impact their health and relationships, but with responsible guidance, kids learn that THEY can choose how THEY respond. Courage isn’t the absence of fear; it’s deciding to act with patience and respect even when emotions are strong. By practicing courage, kids build resilience, manage stress, and strengthen bonds with family and friends. Well done everyone!
